A Week of Highlights and What’s Ahead in November

It has been such an exciting week in our classroom! The students have been full of energy, creativity, and enthusiasm, and I am so proud of all their hard work. We also have some important updates and reminders as we head into November, so keep reading to stay in the loop.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Celebrating Progress and Partnership
I am so thankful for the opportunity to connect with the majority of families during the Fall parent-teacher conferences. I truly appreciate you taking the time to meet with me and discuss your child’s growth and progress in the classroom. It is such a privilege to come together as partners, always keeping your child’s best interests at heart. My goal is to support them, challenge them, and encourage them to reach the incredible potential I know they have. I often tell the class that I push them to always show their best because I care about their growth and success. Thank you for being partners in this journey. Working together in this way makes such a meaningful difference in your child’s learning and development.

A Day to Remember: Our Saints Come to Life!
What an incredible day we had celebrating our Saints Presentations! I could not be prouder of our class. Every single student did a fantastic job. Their confidence, creativity, and heart came through so beautifully in their presentations. I had so many people come up to me throughout the day to say how impressed they were and I couldn’t agree more!

It was such a joy to see the students step into the roles of their saints, sharing what they had learned with so much enthusiasm. Thank you to all the families who were able to join us. Your presence meant so much to your children and their classmates. Having you there truly made the day feel extra special.

The fun isn’t quite over! On Monday afternoon, our students will be dressing up again to display their boards and share about their saints with the rest of the school. Many decided to leave their costumes in their lockers so they’ll be ready for round two.

A huge thank you to Mr. Sawicki and Mrs. Pietrek for all their help in the final hours before the big day. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Halloween Highlights
Another big thank you to Mrs. Pietrek and Mrs. Boltz for signing up and bringing such fun treats and a great game for our class celebration. I am truly grateful for the many supportive parents who help make our classroom such a warm and joyful community. Your involvement means so much to me and to the students. You are always welcome to be part of our classroom (just make sure to be VIRTUS trained!).

Check out our Google Drive folder, where you’ll find more pictures from both the Saints Presentations and our Halloween party. https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1MHj-BufEH9zadUZNoKbg3fonE76iA6Y3 If you took a video of your child’s presentation and would like to share it, please reach out — I can provide access so you can upload it to our shared folder.

Days like this remind me just how special our classroom community is.

Zombie Geography Project: Putting Knowledge to the Test!
Our class has been having so much fun with the Zombie Geography Project! It has been incredible hearing students apply their prior knowledge from social studies and science as they analyze over 20 different maps of our country. They have explored maps of agricultural land potential, growing seasons, elevation, natural resources, climate, population density, and even natural disaster risks. Their discussions and critical thinking have been amazing to witness, and I am once again impressed by how thoughtfully they apply what they have learned.

Ask your child about the project.. if they haven’t shared already!

5th Grade Leads School Mass – Friday, 11/7
Our 5th graders are excited to lead the school Mass on Friday, November 7! You can expect your child to bring home their parts on Monday. Please take a few moments to help them practice at home so they feel confident and prepared for this special opportunity.

As we wrap up another exciting week in our classroom, I am reminded of how lucky we are to have such a supportive and engaged community. From thoughtful conversations during parent-teacher conferences to the energy and creativity our students bring every day, it has been a joy to watch them grow, learn, and shine. Thank you for partnering with me, encouraging your children, and celebrating their successes along the way. I am looking forward to a wonderful November full of learning, growth, and even more memorable moments together!

Next Week’s Highlights: Must Know Details for Families

Saint Reports: Crunch Time!
Our Saint Reports are well underway, and we are entering crunch time! Please make sure your child has their costume ready by Wednesday, October 29 for our dress rehearsal. Students will need to bring their costumes to class to ensure everything is prepared for Thursday’s Presentation of the Saints. If your child needs help with parts of their costume, please reach out to me as soon as possible. I have a small collection of items that I may be able to lend.

Your child may be bringing home some of their research assignments. Thank you for supporting them by providing access to the internet or books to gather more information about their chosen saint. I also have printed off resources for them to use, too. They will hopefully have their reports finished by Friday. Please help them practice at home.

We hope that all parents are able to join us for Mass on Thursday, October 30 for our Presentation of the Saints. After Mass, we will be hosting a “meet and greet” where you can learn more about each student’s saint in the Parish Center. (Our class Halloween Celebration will be after from 10-11:20, as it is an early release day!)

Additionally, students interested in extra credit have the opportunity to participate in the Holy Cross Saints Geography Fair. If your child would like to participate, please email Mrs. Rachel Vogel at rachelvogel181@gmail.com, including your child’s name and noting that they are a 5th-grade student at Holy Cross. Please try to let her know by Monday, 10/27. The fair will take place on Saturday, November 8.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Sign-ups for Parent-Teacher Conferences are now open! Please note that registration will close on Sunday, October 26 at 7:00 PM and you will not be able to register for conferences after the window closes. If you are unable to attend, please let me know, and I will be happy to send home my conference note sheet. If you have questions or need a time that appears unavailable, please reach out and I will try to accommodate you within the conference time frame. Please check your email for a link to book your conference time.

For those preferring a virtual conference, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can provide a link. Additionally, all parents are asked to complete a Parent Conference Google Form by Sunday, October 26. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. https://forms.gle/sTzYS6q8YVMdchXo6

Welcome to Jacob – Our St. Norbert College Student!
We are excited to welcome Jacob, a student from St. Norbert College, who will be joining our classroom from Monday, October 27 through Tuesday, November 26. Please take some time to get to know him — we can’t wait to learn alongside him!

A Look Inside Our Classroom: September Highlights

I can’t believe how fast September went! This class has been having so much fun, and we’ve already done so many exciting things together.

👇 Check out some of the pictures of what we’ve been up to:

Reeses and Oreo have been getting SO much love from the class! These two furry friends have become everyone’s favorites — the kids can’t get enough of them. We even brought them to Blessing of the Pets, and they were absolute stars of the day!

When the sun is shining, there’s no better place to learn than our outdoor classroom! The fresh air and bright skies make everything more exciting. The class loves spreading out, working together, and soaking up the sunshine while they learn. Who says classrooms need four walls?

Our class has been buzzing with teamwork and thoughtful discussions lately! We just finished up our second module of math, working together to solve problems and share strategies. At the same time, we’ve been diving into an exciting science unit on the immune system — Infection: Detection! Students have been collaborating, asking great questions, and engaging in deep discussions about how our bodies fight off germs and stay healthy. It’s been amazing to see everyone learning together, exploring both science and math like true problem-solvers!

We had such a special time walking behind the church with our preschool friends to pick apples and pears! Experiences like this are unique to our Holy Cross students, and we feel so lucky to have them. With a beautiful view all around us and plenty of space to explore, it was a perfect day of fresh air, friendship, and fun. Nature really is the best classroom!

Our class sang at their first Mass and their voices were just angelic. I would love for parents to come to Mass on Fridays and hear them sing. We are also super excited about our field trip on the 17th to join the GRACE Middle School choir students. It is such a special honor for the kids.
